Global Conversation Under a New Structure

COLUMBIA CHINA PROSPECTS CONFERENCE

Global Conversation Under New Structure | Agenda

On the basis of inheriting and further developing the essence of previous forums, this year the forum shall continue to discuss developmental strategies and challenges China faces in the current international situation from multiple perspectives, as well as elaborating on the challenges and opportunities China might face in the future. In the previous years, communication between China and other countries around the world has been strengthened. As a result, “Take in, Expand out” is no longer a vision, but a fact frequently practiced by the Chinese government. Though receiving various benefits with this new approach there still remains many challenges. During such times, it is particularly vital to encourage global conversation on deeper levels. The world shall hear China’s voice as it seeks out towards potential common ground gearing for a win-win situation for all parties. At this time we shall cooperate with Columbia University’s Global Centers, Beijing, Columbia University’s Chinese Students and Scholars Association, Columbia Business School and Teachers College at Columbia University to present multiple dialogues between China and the United States.

Startup Pitch

The challenge that most young entrepreneurs face today is a lack of resources such as partners, VCs and mentors. Eggshell Incubator is a company that not only helps to alleviate the challenge, but also is a company that bases itself in the Chinese community of the greater New York area. In order to achieve the goal of helping young entrepreneurs to gain resources, we plan to hold a competition on April 2nd (tentative), during which VCs and Judges will be invited to determine the best start-up ideas. Those voted the best start-up projects would be assigned to individual VCs for further incubation.

All current enrolled students and fresh graduates from higher educational institutions in United States are eligible to participate in the competition. The initial registration starts on Feb 21, and ends at Mar 15, 2016. All participants/ teams deemed to have great potential will be chosen to enter a series of workshops and salons, which will help them to polish their business plans. After the workshops and salons, those teams would conduct a crowd funding campaign to raise funds and public awareness for the launch of their business. Finally, according to the performance of these crowd funding campaigns, teams will be chosen to enter the Live Pitch, presenting their business plan to a panel of judges and the distinguished members of multiple fields. Finalists will be chosen according to their presentation and Q&A performance. The top team can win a prize of $5,000 as their start-up fund, while the teams coming in second or third place will win $3,000 and $2,000, respectively.

Schwarzman Scholarship Information Session

about

For those who are ready to make their mark on the world, come join the Schwarzman Scholarship Information Session: Designing Future Leadership, at Columbia University and get a chance to meet Robert Garris, Global Director of Admissions for one of the world’s most prestigious scholarship programs. This info session is designated for attendees of the China Prospects Conference who are interested in the Schwarzman Scholarship. General Columbia and Barnard students are also welcome to attend the info session.
Schwarzman Scholars is an international scholarship program founded by Stephen A. Schwarzman, co-founder and chairman of the Blackstone Group and Chair of President Donald Trump's Strategic and Policy Forum.
Whether in politics, business or science, the success of future leaders around the world will depend upon an understanding of China’s role in global trends. The Schwarzman Scholars is designed to prepare the next generation of global leaders. Launched in 2016, the program gives the world’s best and brightest students the opportunity to develop their leadership skills and professional networks through a one-year Master’s Degree at Tsinghua University (THU) in Beijing – one of China’s most prestigious universities. Students pursue a Masters in Global Affairs, with concentrations in one of the disciplines: Public Policy, Economics and Business, and International Studies. Immersed in an international community of thinkers, innovators and senior leaders in business, politics and society, students learn from one another and pursue their academic disciplines while building their leadership capacities.
